"I was returned to freedom of expression stolen by the McCanns." The reaction is Goncalo Amaral after learning that the book "True Lies" will return to newsstands and that he can continue to defend the theory that Madeleine is dead.
The decision of the Court of Appeal of Lisbon, known yesterday, ending more than a year in which the former coordinator of the Judicial Police was forced to silence.
Three judges judges considered that the good name of the couple was not questioned nor private life was violated, claimed as their own. On the other, "we find that they are themselves (the parents of Madeleine (which multiply in interviews and speeches in the media, providing them with information that otherwise would hardly be publicized."

"Foi-me devolvida a liberdade de expressão roubada pelo casal McCann". A reacção é de Gonçalo Amaral depois de saber que o livro "A verdade da mentira" vai voltar às bancas e que ele próprio pode continuar a defender a tese de que Madeleine está morta.
A decisão do Tribunal da Relação de Lisboa, ontem conhecida, põe fim a mais de um ano em que o ex-coordenador da Polícia Judiciária esteve obrigado ao silêncio.
Três juízes desembargadores consideraram que o bom nome do casal não foi posto em causa nem a reserva da vida privada foi violada, como os próprios alegavam. Por um lado, os elementos descritos na obra constam do processo-crime. "Não verificamos no livro a referência a quaisquer factos que não constem no despacho final", dizem os magistrados. Por outro, "verificamos que são eles mesmos (os pais de Madeleine( que se multiplicam em entrevistas e intervenções nos órgãos de comunicação social, proporcionando-lhes informações que de outra forma dificilmente seriam publicitadas".
Os pais da menina desaparecida a 3 de Maio de 2007, na Praia da Luz, em Lagos, interpuseram uma providência cautelar em Setembro do ano passado. Por decisão do Tribunal Cível de Lisboa, o livro foi retirado do mercado e a venda proibida, em Portugal e no estrangeiro, tal como a reprodução do documentário emitido pela TVI. Amaral também foi impedido de se expressar publicamente sobre a tese da morte. O ex-polícia recorreu e a Relação deu-lhe razão, criticando o casal e a decisão do Tribunal Cível, que "violou a Constituição da República Portuguesa e a Convenção Europeia dos Direitos do Homem".
